The Evenings With Our Authors series is an intimate, seasonal dinner-and-discussion series I started in 2009 to run in conjunction with my Creative Nonfiction workshops. The series offers attendees an unparalleled opportunity to ask our authors the kinds of questions we most want to ask: how to get out of our own ways, how to live with the challenges of essaying, how to move through the world as creators of self-realized work. This is not a lecture series, and not a true reading series–picture yourself enjoying a potluck Thanksgiving of sorts while getting a crack at understanding something deeper about how your favorite writers make their ways through the writing life one day at a time. There is no lectern at EWOA–just all of us together for a night. There’s really nothing else like it.
Past EWOA guests have included John D’Agata, Liza Dalby, Brenda Miller, Lidia Yuknavitch, Ryan Van Meter, Wendy C. Ortiz, Elizabeth Scarboro, Novella Carpenter, Pam Houston, Sarah Arvio, Paul Lisicky, and Lacy Johnson. If you’re currently enrolled in my local Creative Nonfiction workshop, your space has already been held for you for any evenings scheduled during the session for which you are registered.
